50% off at Pertutti, Manchester

Visited this place with my boyfriend yesterday, we were going to go last saturday but it's been fully booked.  it's only about 10 minutes walk from city gate which is opposite hilton in deansgate. 

First glance, ambiance is great…. white and black makes a good contrast. They mainly do pizza in this restaurant but I decided to go for pasta. I ordered chicken arrabiata whichi was strips of chicken in a spicy ‘per tutti’ tomato sauce  with penne pasta, parmesan and basil, presentation is simply nice, perhaps for a dinner the portion might seem small. The pasta seems it's not fully cooked yet, flavour is not bad tho, a bit of spicy kick to the sour tomato sauce.

Of course, i have ended my meal with desserts. I always look at the dessert menu before my mains.  Nothing really fancy and it was rather classic desserts. We ordered chocolate fondue pudding with ice cream and panna cotta with raspberry.  I personally think the quality of dessert was amazing as Manchester don't have much good dessert places, very smooth vanilla panna cotta served with raspberry, the chocolate fondue pudding was a bit undercooked but it still tasted very nice.

Overall, i like this place and i would want to return and try other dishes on the menu! this place certainly is a great restaurant to dine in, i am grateful that i have dine here for our anniversary dinner.

Cakes from G Wienholt

Albe and Chung bought me a birthday cake G Weinholt, all the way from cheshire. It's a really popular bakery in region which you have to start queuing up from 9 to buy the cake and it's only opened from Thursday to Saturaday. They bought me a Praline Gateaux, thought it would be really sweet from the look but it actually tasted quite good! Hazelnut Japonaise biscuit with fresh cream and rich praline filling. And it's quite cheap too, £10 for a 9" cake.

I are't too keen on the individual cakes, I had a bite of their marzipan peaches and chocolate fudge cake which were too sweet and can tell they usuing cheap ingredients in them. Also the service was a letdown. Highly recommended their gateaux.

Pre Birthday Celebration!!

It's my birthday on Saturday! My friends decided to pre celebrate it to me today since they all working on saturaday. They came over mine and cooked me dinner, I can finally just wait and eat for once! haha

after dinner, we decided to have a wig party at han dynasty, the koraoke rooms were fully booked tho so we went to pearl city instead. It was such a good night!

Shelly's Restaurant, Warrnington

I went back to warrington to see a friend, I wanted to have afternoon tea and this is the only place where I can have afternoon tea in Warrington. we went there at 1ish and got told they don't do afternoon tea until 3 so we ordered something else.

It's a small homely restaurant, it was decorated beautifully.

 My first Chai Tea…  presentation wise very pretty in a lovely white tea set. The tea smell great! 

Food wise, the menu was limited and quite similar to others, I ordered lunch special which has half of a sandwich and soup. Tasted nothing special and a bit flavourless. It was a lady who served us, I know she was trying to be friendly but I think she's over talkative. Overall, lovely atmosphere, tea is not bad, food ok. might return for their afternoon tea.

Pancake Day!

It's that time of year again already… Pancake DayI can't be bothered to make them from scratch so I decided to use hot cake mix instead x) I saw the 'ottogi hot cake mix' in the chinese grocery, the hot cakes on the package look so nice x) so I bought it but the instructions is in korean, I had to ask a friend to translate it for me. Just simply add in eggs and milk, spongecake and steam cake can be made easily with this mix

Angry Bird Cake 憤怒鳥蛋糕

Rose Macaroons玫瑰馬卡龍

This is my 4th post of macaroons. I am constantly trying out new recipes and will be adding on these recipes to this database once I am satisfied with the results. bought a macaroons recipe book earlier and I tried out a few different flavour but they didn't turn out very good. It's really hard to control the quality of macaroons, they look different every time I make it even using the same recipe. The key is to be precise in measuring the ingredients and the baking temperature. They are just so much fun to make, you can make any flavour colour combination and that is what makes them great fun.

Ingredients (makes 16): 

75g ground almonds
115g icing sugar
2 large egg whites
50g caster sugar
1/2 tsp rosewater ( I used rose syrup instead)
few drops of pink/red food colouring
The recipe from the book uses double cream for the filling, I used buttercream instead.

70g butter
140g icing sugar
1/2 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp rose syrup
few drops of pink food colouring


1. Sift ground almonds and icing sugar together for few times, mix them well.

2. Place the egg whites in a large bowl and whisk until holding soft peaks. Gradually whisk in the caster sugar to make a firm glossy meringue. Whisk in the rose syrup and food colouring.

3. Fold the the meringue into the almond mixture one third at a time. When all the dry ingredients are thoroughly incorporated, continue to cut and fold the mixture until it forms a shiny batter with a thick ribbon-like consistency.
4. Pour mixture into a pipping bag fitted with a 1cm plain nozzle. Pipe 32 small rounds onto the prepared baking sheets. Tap the baking sheets firmly onto a work surface to remove air bubbles. Top half the macaroons with spoilt dried rose petal. Leave at room temperature for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 160C.
5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes, then carefully peel the macaroons off the baking paper, leave to cool completely/
6. To make the filling, whisk all the ingredients until nice and smooth, use to sandwich pairs of macaroons together.

Chocolate waffle with nutella and banan 榛子窩夫

Ingredients(makes 2):
Flour 200g
baking powder 1tsp
3tsp cocoa powder
melted dark chocolate 5g
(reduce sugar if you are using sweeten chocolate)
1 egg
pinch of salt
dark brown sugar 60g
1tbsp syrup
melted butter 10g
milk 200ml

1. Preheat waffle maker.
2. In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt. In another bowl, beat egg and brown sugar until fluffy, then beat in milk, syrup and melted butter. Stir the wet into dry until just moist. Do not over stir the waffle batter. Brush the waffle maker with a little melted butter and cook it until brown. serve with toppings of choice.

Southern Eleven, Spinningfields, Manchester

Southern Eleven, billed as serving authentic, traditional, home-style favourite from the eleven southern US states, arrived in Spinningfields in July. Visited last night after purchasing a voucher - £15 for 2 courses and a cocktail. I was excited to visit this restaurant since I have seen some nice pictures of it, the interior of the restaurant is cool and very comsmopolian, although it's a bit small.  First impressions were good, this is a really nice looking, well located restaurant in Manchester's Spinningfields development with glass tables, gun metal grey and black decor and a nice provision of space meaning you aren't crammed in like you often can be in American diners. But what really disappointed was the staffs were quite impolite and really slow. We sat near the door which was quite cold every time people open the door.

I ordered tortilla chips with home-made guacamole and tomato salsa to start, it tasted alright and the portion was big.
main course was chicken caesar, again, it was ok. The chicken was a bit dry and bread was rock hard.
two of my friend ordered vanilla cheesecake and blueberry cheesecake, I tried a bit of both and I prefer vanilla one but they were no matter than tesco finest one:/
After all I wont go there again.

Popolo, Sheffield

Happy Valentine's Day everyone, whether you're spending it with a love one, your family or your friends, I hope you all have an amazing day filled with love and laughter:) Instead of getting me flower, my boyfriend got me 3 kg of gummy bears lol since I don't like flowers or chocolate. I made him a charlotte cake as present, I was supposed to give him a knitted scarf but I couldn't finish it on time:P
It's a really bad day for me cause I had a really bad flu:( we went to Popolo in Leopold Square, Sheffield.
The restaurant is upstairs, with the bar area downstairs. The restaurant food is a mixture between different classic European dish, with some English staples thrown in. There are some good reviews about this restaurant but I think the food is just 'ok'
he ordered carpaccio di manzo which is basically raw meet
and I had the soup of the day, it was a bit too sour and I couldn't finish it all. 
I don't eat raw food at all, but I tried a tiny bit of the beef, literally TINY bit haha
Main course I had was seafood risotto, I wanted to cry when the dish came! I hate mussels and oysters! but there were LOADS in it:( if might be better if I didn't order the wrong food.
I also had grilled garlic courgettes, it was so bad! they were all burnt and all I can tasted was bitter:/
I think dessert is as important as main course, a good dessert can complete the whole dinner. The coffee and alcohol taste of this tiramisu were too strong! my dinner wasn't completed because of this:(
I ordered latte freddo for drink, I think this might be the only thing I appreciated with. I am not often too critical of price, especially if the quality of food/service is decent - but overall it seemed not too reasonable.
